Fire load insulation

Fires are often caused by faults in the electrical system, especially in electrical enclosures and distribution boards. The aim of fire load insulation is to protect the surroundings from the effects of a fire.
swibox enclosures with fire load insulation protect the surroundings from fires that can occur within electrical systems, for example.
The innovative systems from swibox fulfil the requirements for tunnel and building construction as well as those for safety enclosures in rail vehicles in accordance with EN 45545.
The innovative swibox sandwich construction results in significant weight savings. This also contributes to the ease of installation of the components.

"E" vs. "EI"

Fire resistance is the period of time during which an enclosure retains its function in the event of a fire. The enclosure must ensure that the room is sealed off. This means that smoke gases must not escape to the outside.

E classification

  • Room closure over a certain period of time
  • No passage of flames from the side facing the fire to the side facing away from it
  • The flame is applied according to the standard temperature curve. The entire test is carried out in accordance with EN 1363
  • Example: “E30”: The test specimen withstands the test for 30 minutes

EI classification

  • Room sealing as for test criterion “E”
  • Additional thermal insulation.
  • Measurement of the temperature on the side of the test specimen facing away from the flame.
  • The temperature must not exceed 200° C (180° C above room temperature).
  • Example: “EI30”: The test specimen withstands the test for 30 minutes.
