Intermittent pressure-tight – products for tunnelling
When high-speed trains pass through railway tunnels, positive and negative pressure of up to +/- 10 kPa is created. This ‘alternating pressure’ leads to the ingress of dust if enclosures are not sufficiently stable and tight.
The safety regulations for the construction and operation of railway tunnels are particularly strict. In the new Gotthard Base Tunnel, at 57 kilometres the longest railway tunnel in the world, the requirements have been significantly increased once again. As passenger and goods trains pass through the tunnel at 250 km/h, there are enormous pressure and suction loads for all components used. Added to this are considerable temperature differences, high humidity and extreme dust exposure.
The swibox customised solutionsensure reliable functional integrity and protection of all electrical components: Air conditioning systems, high-density electrical enclosures and junction boxes. The swibox products fully passed the demanding tests in advance and now guarantee safe operation of the tunnel.
